war is hell

stuck at the auto repair shop today. bored and working 2 experiments into 1 pic. (the white line is to suggest that it is a wraparound cover.)

Wow that woman looks really beautiful and the drawing is very intense! If I could I'd buy that in a heart beat. Nice job! And this mystery project is really getting me excited for what is to come!

Lovely, Ben. The flat rendering of the armor is a nice choice. Care to comment on the two experiments in evidence?

andy - it was pencilled with a regular, #2 mechanical pencil and xerox laser printer paper (all i ever use). i colored it in photohop, just regular brushes at various opacities.

zawadi - i was trying to make WW look beautiful without using the generalized proportions that are usually used. i even gave her a few blemishes -- there are many woman who are pretty, but i also wanted her to be striking.

jon - the flat rendering is ripped off from the cover of elfquest #18, which had a fully-rendered elf wearing wolf's head armor that was printed as silver foil. i was around 10 when it came out, and it was the coolest cover i'd ever seen!

as for the experiments, one of them was that rendered/flat juxtaposition, the other was... crap. i don't remember. probably something about the "unusual beauty" angle or something.

carnalizer, jason - it is finished! i mean, unless DC hires me to do it as an actual cover or something. one of the reasons i'm doing more of the manga-oriented work is that i want to take the "get in, get out" approach. put down the essential info and move on. kind of like elastica, but less sexy.

Beautiful. Definitely striking. Didn't realize she was WW. Love it anyway!
